Four Years of Blosxom

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

I kept a blog in blosxom from 2003 until this month.  I’m no longer interested in spending the time to fuss with it and am embracing the lightness of GUI blogging.  I’ve put everything where it used to be for people who might have bookmarked the old blog and otherwise I intend to continue forward with WordPress, at least for a little while.

I do recommend blosxom for someone who loves Perl and has shell access to their webspace.  That’s just no longer me.

The Green of Envy

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

My OLPC XO has arrived and oh it is sweet.  Photo set of me opening the box.  What you can’t hear is me going OOOH and AHHHH at everything I saw.  I hope to have a more detailed review after I’ve used it for a couple of days.

Initial impressions:

  • Cute.    A real crowd pleaser.  Nearly everyone I showed it to vowed to get one or expressed envy.
  • Good form factor, other than the keyboard.  It’s only a problem because I have fat fingers and can’t touch type on it.
  • The UI is generally intuitive.  I can figure out pretty quickly what will happen if I do something or, at the worst, what I just did.  Not always easy to figure out how to do something I haven’t done before but maybe that will come with time and experience.

Twinged Migration

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

I’ve taken the step of migrating my domain to a paid hoster in a fit of pique with spammers who were keeping my home system hard drive whirring constantly. I hope to restore the archives of my previous blog somewhere around here. This will be something of a fresh start, though, so if you bookmarked this blog or subscribed to it in a reader, you should update.
